European House, housing the European Commission (EC) Representative Office and the European Parliament Information Office in Slovakia, was officially opened October 29, at a ceremony in Bratislava.
Next year, the house at Palisády Street 29, will also open the European Document Centre, offering further information to Slovak citizens about the European Union, the TASR news wire wrote.
"Although the central offices are in Bratislava, a network of branches will be created throughout Slovakia," said the leader of the EC's Representative Office, Eric van der Linden.
Slovak European Commissioner Ján Figeľ highlighted the fact that Slovakia was the first among the new EU members to see their European House opened officially. Institutions like this are necessary for dignified and effective representation, as well as communication between the Parliament, the Commission and the member countries.
European Parliament quaestor James Nicholson added that it is very important to make information from all over the EU accessible to people. "At the same time, it's important for us to understand how the Slovak people think."
European House is part of the so-called Diplomat Administrative Centre, also housing the Finnish, Swedish and Norwegian embassies.
