Growth in Slovak retail sales in July was higher, on a month-by-month basis, than the eurozone or EU-wide averages.
In Slovakia, retail sales posted a monthly increase of 1.3 percent. Retail sales, however, dropped 0.2 percent m/m in July in the eurozone and grew by just 0.2 percent m/m throughout the 27-member European Union (EU), the Statistical Office of the European Communities (Eurostat) reported on Thursday, September 3.
By contrast, Slovakia's retail sales declined 11.6 percent year-on-year: considerably worse than retail sales within the eurozone, which fell by 1.8 percent. The situation was even worse in comparison with the whole European Union, where retail sales declined only 0.9 percent.
