A POLL carried out by the MVK agency for the Pravda daily suggests that even people who describe themselves as right wing voters support softer reforms.
According to the poll, the voters of the right-wing Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) and the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) hold this opinion, together with the left-wing Smer.
The supporters of Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda's Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) are most likely to be in favour of fast and uncompromising reforms. However, this group is not in the majority even in this party.
"Among the voters of other right wing parties, the opponents of such radical reforms have the upper hand," said MVK Director Pavel Haulík.
Haulík said that 49 percent of KDH voters believe that the state should compensate economically weaker groups for the consequences of reforms. Among the voters of the left-wing Smer, some 44 percent also hold this opinion.
