POLICE are investigating the fall of the church tower in the western Slovak village of Láb, with the prosecution claiming that it was a crime of endangering public safety.
On September 2, the 30-metre tall tower of the Roman Catholic Church of All Saints in Láb fell, with the reasons are so far being unknown. Initially, the village missed its parson and was concerned because he was not answering the phone; however, he returned safe some time later. It was established that at the moment it fell, nobody was in the church (as one part of the church got buried by the debris), nor in the tower itself. The damage to the building has not yet been calculated.
Bratislava Regional Police spokesperson Tatiana Kurucová told the TASR newswire that the front part of the church also collapsed. The fire brigade from the nearby town of Malacky helped clear the debris.
