Fico announces future Smer ministers, compliments Orbán

Smer nominated a pro-Russian MP with no diplomatic experience as foreign minister.

In a video posted on Facebook on Thursday, Smer leader Robert Fico announced his party’s nominees for the six ministries that Smer will be responsible for once President Zuzana Čaputová appoints a Smer-led government.

All the nominees, but one, are party members.

Earlier in the week, Smer’s partners, Hlas and SNS, revealed their candidates.

Pro-Russian MP as foreign minister

Smer’s former interior minister Robert Kaliňák may become the defence minister. Kaliňák was charged with establishing a crime group, corruption and abuse of power before the General Prosecutor’s Office scrapped the charges last November and in the summer.

Smer has repeatedly said that its government will stop military aid for Ukraine.
