Fico may garner opposition votes

On April 1, the Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote that five members of parliament will likley break from the opposition to vote for ratification of the Lisbon Treaty.

On April 1, the Hospodárske Noviny daily wrote that five members of parliament will likley break from the opposition to vote for ratification of the Lisbon Treaty.

The MPs ready to vote for it include Béla Bugár, former chairman of the opposition SMK, and former agriculture minister Zsolt Simon (SMK).

The rest of the SMK is hesitant to vote for the treaty before seeing a final version of the governing coalition’s Press Code. The Slovak National Party (SNS), a junior member of the coalition, would also prefer to wait before holding a final vote on the treaty. SITA
