Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands will arrive for a three-day visit to Slovakia this afternoon.
She will meet with Prime Minister Robert Fico to discuss improving bilateral relations between the Netherlands and Slovakia, Slovakia's role in the EU and the UN Security Council, and its economic development.
This first-ever visit of a Dutch head of state to Slovakia has come about at President Ivan Gašparovič’s invitation. The president and his wife Silvia will meet with Queen Beatrix at the Presidential Palace at the beginning of the visit. The Dutch monarch will meet with Fico and Parliamentary Chairman Pavol Paška on the same day.
On Tuesday, Queen Beatrix will meet with Mayor Andrej Ďurkovský of Bratislava, take part in a seminar on multilingualism in Europe and discuss the changes that have taken place in Slovakia since 1989.
During her visit, the queen also has plans to meet with business representatives.
The visit will end on May 23, in Košice, where Queen Beatrix will meet city Mayor František Knapík.
