EU FINANCE Ministers will meet at the end of this week to discuss the possibility of tax breaks to help national economies to cope with the high petrol and diesel prices, the daily SME reported.
"We do not incline to the possibility of cutting the excise taxes, but we are considering other steps that might help residents bear the high prices of fuel, in the form of compensations or social assistance," Zuzana Bruteničová, of Slovakia's Finance Ministry's press department, said.
EU finance ministers have so far agreed that excise taxes should not be decreased in the interest of softening the negative impact of high oil prices.
