Food sales fall, exports up

SLOVAKIA's food industry reported a 1.7 percent decrease in sales year-on-year to Sk49.5 billion (€1.24 billion), the SITA news agency reported.

Exports rose by 16.1 percent however, reaching Sk7.7 billion (€190 million) and added value decreased by 11.9 percent to Sk8.3 billion (€210 million).

The sector recorded a pre-tax profit of Sk966.1 million (€22.4 million), down 47.9 percent year-on-year. The sector employed 38,613 people with an average monthly wage of up 9.8 percent year-on-year to S15,384 (€384.6).
