LIFE itself settled the case of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic before the UN tribunal in The Hague, said Slovak Foreign Minister Eduard Kukan on March 11.
Milosevic was found dead in his cell on Saturday as his trial neared its end. Doctors suspect he had a heart attack.
The Slovak Foreign Ministry sees a certain symbolism in the death of Milosevic, as it may mean an end to tragedy in the history of the former Yugoslav republics, the SITA news wire reported.
"We now have to look to the future and to the European prospects of the countries of the former Yugoslavia," said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Juraj Tomaga, adding that Slovakia is ready to help these countries in this aim.
Milosevic was elected president of Serbia in 1990, and ruled until being voted out of office in 2000. He was charged with genocide and war crimes committed during the Balkan wars in the 1990s.
