Cemm Thome, a French producer of car wiring harnesses, plans to set up a €2.5-3 million factory in the eastern Slovak region of Prešov in 2004, news wire TASR reported.
Ján Bajánek, director of the state-run Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO), has confirmed the information. SARIO is currently cooperating with Cemm Thome on the selection of a suitable greenfield site for the plant.
"This investment will be a significant growth impulse for eastern Slovakia. In a region with an unemployment rate of over 17 percent, construction of a new plant by a foreign company is very good news," Bajánek said.
Cemm Thome entered the Slovak market in the first quarter of 2003 through its Prešov-based subsidiary, Cemm Thome SK, which currently employs 280 people. The new plant is expected to increase the workforce to at least 400.
