The European Border and Coast Guard Agency, also known as Frontex, will have a liaison officer in Slovakia.

This stems from a memorandum of understanding signed between the Slovak Interior Minister Denisa Saková (Smer) and director of Frontex Fabrice Leggeri on June 5 in Luxembourg.

The liaison officer, responsible for Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland, will have regular access to all necessary information concerning the current situation, trends and potential threats on external borders, cross-border criminal activities, terrorism and return policy.

Moreover, he/she will have access to top leaders of authorities responsible for managing the borders, law enforcement and return policy.

Frontex’s liaison officer should reside in Bratislava, at the premises of the Office of the Border and Alien Police.

“I’m pleased by Slovakia’s success since the liaison officer of Frontex responsible for Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Poland will reside in Bratislava,” said Saková, as quoted in a press release. “It will simplify the communication between us and Frontex in questions concerning the protection of EU external borders.”
