Protest against high-level political corruption in Slovakia took place on February 3 in Bratislava, Nitra, Košice, Zvolen, Žilina, Trenčín, Prievidza, Prešov and Spiská Nová Ves.
As many as 15,000 people attended Slovakia's main rally in Bratislava as part of the Gorilla II Protest on February 4, protest organiser Lucia Gallová told TASR newswire.
The march, which begun on SNP Square, should have originally been wrapped up on Námestie Slobody near the Government Office, but it also moved further to the Presidential Palace. Dozens of bananas, broken eggs, bottles, firecrackers and even one flowerpot ended up thrown behind the fence of the Palace.
The most radical protesters - around 100 persons - reached the Parliament after the demonstration was officially dissolved by the organisers. The police deployed special hoplite forces in order to drive out the radicals from the immediate distance of the parliament building, TASR reported.
Around 3,000 predominantly young people gathered on the Main Street in Košice February 3 afternoon to take part in the Gorilla Protest while around 7,000 people have registered on Facebook to attend the protest, according to organizers.
The Gorilla Protest in Nitra was attended by around 1,000 people, with speakers condemning corruption and oligarchy in Slovakia's political system, calling on thorough investigation into the Gorilla wiretapping scandal and postponing the general election from March to September, TASR reported.
