The government on Wednesday, June 17, approved a proposal co-sponsored by the Labour and Agriculture Ministries to release €16.6 million to create thousands of farm jobs in a move aimed at softening the impact of the global economic crisis, the TASR wrote.
According to Prime Minister Robert Fico, the money will be used to fund new jobs in the area of animal and plant production and forest management, including such work as pig and sheep farming or orchard planting.
Many Slovaks working abroad are said to be returning to rural areas fit for farming and forest work. These are activities which “we would like to resuscitate after being ‘put on ice’”, said Agriculture Minister Stanislav Becík in comments to explain the reasons for the proposal. TASR
