The Slovak government on Wednesday, October 27, approved a plan involving 70 legislative tasks that should be carried out by the end of 2010, the TASR newswire wrote.
The measures include the Labour Ministry's amendment to the Labour Code, introducing the obligation for employers to ensure that employees can take up their original posts after returning from parental leave. Slovakia is supposed to introduce this measure in line with a request from the European Commission.
The Finance Ministry, for its part, wants to change the law on this year's state budget. Finance Minister Ivan Mikloš (SDKÚ), who has described the law as "a scrap of paper", claims that the public deficit this year won't reach 5.5 percent of GDP as originally projected but almost 8 percent instead.
The Culture Ministry intends to unveil its plans for merging public-service Slovak Television with Slovak Radio, with the aim of saving €1.65 million next year. The ministry also wants to present an amendment to the Press Act that would exempt public officials from the right to reply guaranteed by law. In addition, Deputy Premier for Minorities Rudolf Chmel will submit legislation on the use of ethnic minority languages.
