LABOUR Minister Ľudovít Kaník is proposing an increase in social benefits for some citizens, to help soften the impact of prices rises in petrol and gas, the daily SME reported.
Kaník wants to propose to parliament that people in material distress receive and extra Sk230 (€6) per month, and the contribution for the disabled be increased by Sk200 (€5.20) per month. As of next year he also plans introducing an Sk2,000 (€520) contribution for those unemployed who will find jobs outside of their home and will have to commute to work.
Observers suspect that the proposals signal the start of a pre-election campaign, and would favour systematic measures to be put in place.
“It would be ideal if all benefits were increased systematically so that it does not create the impression that the pre-election campaign has started,” said Martin Hayek from the F A Hayek Foundation.
