As many as 170 people sought the help of the various facilities of the University Hospital in Bratislava (UNB) overnight New Year’s Eve.
Paramedics mainly attended to intoxicated people and those that had sustained injuries in fights, UNB spokeswoman Petra Stano-Maťašovská told the TASR newswire. One man suffered a stab wound to his stomach and needed to undergo surgery. Stano-Maťašovská noted that the patient was in critical condition and has been in the care of the UNB’s branch in Kramáre.
In addition, nine people had to be treated after suffering injuries from fireworks. Two had to undergo plastic surgery, with doctors forced to amputate one finger.
