The opposition Christian Democrats (KDH) reject any form of co-operation with SMK leader Pál Csáky unless he stops radicalising Slovakia's politics, KDH chairman Pavol Hrušovský said following his meeting with opposition SDKÚ leader Mikuláš Dzurinda in Bratislava on September 30.
Hrušovský emphasised that any support for autonomy for the Hungarians living in Slovakia was unacceptable to the KDH, no matter whether it's full autonomy or self-administration.
"I would like to ask Pál Csáky to consider his next moves carefully,” Hrušovský said. “I don't want to comment on co-operation with SMK at the moment, because I'm convinced that it's not the official policy of this party. But if it does become the SMK's official policy, the party as a whole will become unacceptable to the KDH in terms of co-operation in the future."
Dzurinda added, "Any self-administration or autonomy based on ethnicity is out of the question in Slovakia.”
According to the Sme daily, Csaky spoke in Dunajská Streda (Trnava region) on September 27 with László Tokes, leader of Hungarian nationalists in Romania, about Hungarian autonomy in Slovakia, which, according to Csáky, should be led by a Hungarian minority parliament. However, SMK spokesperson Eva Dunajská said that autonomy was not discussed at the meeting and she described the article in the daily as unprofessional and misleading. TASR
