Deputy Speaker of Parliament Pavol Hrušovský (KDH) is to unveil a bust of Alexander Dubček in Rome on Thursday, January 20. Dubček, a Communist Party leader, was the leading representative of the defeated 1968 Prague Spring reform movement in the former Czechoslovakia and has been a popular personality in Italy ever since.
Italian President Giorgio Napolitano, Foreign Minister Franco Frattini and Mayor of Rome Gianni Alemanno will attend the unveiling ceremony. Hrušovský will also meet representatives of the Italian-Slovak friendship group in the Italian Parliament.
In the evening, the Slovak official is due to meet Dominique Mamberti, the secretary for relations with states of the Roman Curia and Cardinal Jozef Tomko. The events are part of a three-day working visit to Italy by Hrušovský, the press department of the Slovak Parliament informed the SITA newswire.
