LABOUR inspectorates, labour offices, tax authorities and police uncovered 1,276 cases of illegal work in the second half of 2007. Labour inspectors were the most successful, discovering 655 illegal labourers, the SITA newswire wrote. In 428 of these cases, employers had failed in their duty to report workers to Sociálna Poisťovňa, the social security provider.
Inspectors identified 184 people working without a job contract. They checked 10,164 persons present in the workplace during the July-December period and levied 111 fines totalling Sk1.54 million for identified shortcomings, of which 71 fines were levied on employers with between one and nine employees.
In the second half of 2007, labour inspectors focused on employers with up to 49 employees. The highest number of illegal workers was revealed in the trade sector, hotels, restaurants and industrial production.
