Hungary has asked Slovakia to explain the matter surrounding geographical terms in Slovakia used in textbooks for Hungarian minority schools, as well as about events in Slovakia following the meeting of the Forum of Hungarian Deputies of the Carpathian Basin in Budapest and allocations from the European Union for Hungarian minority schools in Slovakia.
Hungary's Foreign Minister Kinga Göncz turned with her questions on October 2 to Slovak Ambassador to Hungary Juraj Migaš, whom she summoned to the ministry in the afternoon.
Slovakia's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ján Škoda reported to SITA that this was communication outside the diplomatic relations. They will prepare answers, together with relevant ministries, while the PM will have the final word.
He did not want to comment on whether the summoning of the ambassador was a cause for concern or even deterioration of relations.
"We are not judging this. They have questions, we will answer them."
He stressed that Slovakia was not interested in worsening relations; on the contrary, it was ready to welcome Hungary's prime minister in an official visit to Slovakia. SITA
