THE OPPOSITION Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) made a call for early elections. The party submitted a draft law to parliament that would shorten the current election term by three months, according to the daily SME.
HZDS' Deputy Chairman Viliam Veteška argued that national elections should be held in June, rather than September.
"The summer months should serve as a time for setting up a government and the definitive draft of the state budget", Veteška said
For the proposal to succeed, at least 90 MPs have to support the draft law, which observers deem unlikely.
"Let's be realistic. Why would MPs, who cannot be sure of being re-elected to parliament, shorten their election terms by three months?" said Béla Bugár, the head of the ruling Hungarian Coalition Party.
