According to the leader of the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS), Vladimír Mečiar, talks among the three leaders of the government coalition are not held in the presence of all three partners. He meets with the head of Smer, Prime Minister Robert Fico, alone, without the head of the Slovak National Party (SNS), Ján Slota.
“We hardly meet at the same table,” he announced in a political discussion on public broadcaster STV on January 24.
The next session of the coalition trio is scheduled for February 2. Mečiar denied that animosity toward Ján Slota would be the reason why the coalition leaders have not met as a trio recently. Considering opposition parties, Mečiar now sees the same scenario as in 1998, the same faces and methods except for some details.
“It was me who put them together at that time; there is now no one to unite them, only the thirst for power. And they are so incompatible that they will not create a unit,” he said on the broadcast. STV
