Consumer prices measured by EU methodology in Slovakia in January went up by 0.2 percent month-on-month and by 0.4 percent year-on-year, the Slovak Statistics Office announced on February 12, as reported by the TASR newswire.
Significant month-on-month price increases were recorded in food and beverages, with prices of fruit and vegetables rising by 6.8 and 13 percent, respectively. Alcohol prices went up by 0.6 percent over the month.
Conversely, gas prices eased by 4.7 percent in the month, followed by electricity prices, which fell by 3.1 percent. Clothing and footwear prices dropped by 1.3 and 0.6 percent in the month.
On an annual basis, consumer prices went up by 0.4 percent, with inflation mainly fuelled by more expensive alcohol and tobacco (6 percent), healthcare (5.1 percent), and education (4.8 percent). Conversely, furniture prices dropped by 3.9 percent y-o-y, while food prices fell by 3.5 percent. Core inflation stood at 0.2 percent y-o-y, with net inflation reaching 1.1 percent. TASR
