Representatives of the Interior Ministry are in talks with Štefan Gonda regarding compensation after he unwittingly flew to Dublin with explosive that was planted in his luggage and then not recovered by police during a bungled security exercise at the Poprad airport, the TASR newswire wrote.
News of the negotiations was revealed on January 17 by Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák, who was reluctant to comment on details. However, he did say that he wants to see some portion of any damage compensation repaid by the police officer, who has allegedly quit the police force.
The Irish authorities acted after being advised by Slovak police and seized the explosive at Gonda's Dublin apartment. Communication got crossed, however, and Gonda – who has refused to speak to media in the two weeks since the incident – was arrested by the Irish police. TASR
