THE INTERIOR Ministry plans to send specialists to Roma villages and settlements to improve communication between Roma and the police, the SITA news wire reported.
Trained specialists, according to the ministry, would help the Roma solve minor conflicts.
However, Alexander Patkoló of the Roma Initiative of Slovakia protested against the Interior Ministry's idea to create a special police department for contact with the Roma.
"It seems like a return to fascism," Patkoló said, adding that the plan also resembles a project of the communist regime in which a specialized police agenda was set up for the Roma communities.
The ministry rejects the criticism and Klára Orgovánová, cabinet appointee for the Roma community, favours the idea.
