Most Slovaks are disturbed by the increase of tension in Slovak-Hungarian relations, according to the Institute for Public Affairs (IVO), Zora Bútorová and Oľga Gyárfasová from the institute told the TASR newswire on December 22.
Some 68 percent of those questioned expressed discontent, while 27 percent were not upset about Slovak-Hungarian relations. Two percent didn't have an opinion and 3 percent did not notice any increased tensions between the two states.
According to the survey, the worsening of relations affects men and women equally. No major difference in results could be observed based on nationality, age or education either. As far as the political party affiliation is concerned, most affected seem to be supporters of the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) and Slovak Christian Democratci Untion (SDKÚ). The least worried are supporters of Vladimír Mečiar’s Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS). TASR
