Around 20 activists from the extreme right-wing Hungarian party the Movement for a Better Hungary–Jobbik blocked roads leading to Slovakia from Komarom and Esztergom in northern Hungary during the afternoon of Tuesday, September 1.
The far-right-wing party said it had organised the blockade in order to protest against the controversial amendment to Slovakia’s State Language Act, which came into effect on September 1. Jobbik is calling for its immediate cancellation. Party Chairman Gabor Vona visited the Slovak town of Komárom and gave a press conference the same day. Another ten cars with Hungarian and Jobbik flags blocked the road leading from the Hungarian village of Rajka to the adjacent Slovak border crossing at Rusovce. No incidents were reported and traffic was not heavy, the TASR newswire wrote.
