Judge: Courts could move faster

The chief justice of the Banská Bystrica regional court, Jana Dubovcová, reported that a Slovak-Swiss pilot computer project at her court, called Court Management, had cut the time from the court’s receipt of a case file to its final verdict from over 300 days to just 48. She said the project, which involves computerising a significant part of the currently manual court process, had cut out 80% of her court’s administrative burden.
Justice Minister Ján Čarnogurský declared himself satisfied with the results, wrote the daily paper Pravda, and said he would run the same project at all Slovak courts. The Slovak legal system for several years now has laboured under a huge case backlog and an antiquated filing system.
