Justice ministry compensates Holocaust victims

THE JUSTICE Ministry is intensifying its reimbursement of people who were deported to Nazi concentration camps. The ministry estimates the sum to be paid for compensations this year at Sk20 million, ministry spokesman Michal Jurči told the SITA newswire.

“I consider this to be one of my priorities,” said Harabin. “Since my appointment, the ministry has intensified settling these cases. They should have been settled a long time ago. It is disrespect of the state to these citizens who played an important role in the fight for our freedom,” said the minister.

All those who were deported to concentration camps and imprisoned in them between 1939 and 1945 are entitled to compensation. Their survivors are eligible as well.
