Kaliňák troubled by Public Procurement Office decision

Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák acknowledges the Public Procurement Office's authority to scrap its tender to buy 1,800 breathalysers on discriminatory terms but does not believe the ministry to be as much at fault as the authority claims, he told TASR.

Pravda daily reported on Wednesday, February 17, that the ministry had chosen the most expensive bid at a price €1,000 more expensive than the second highest offer. As for the ministry's tender conditions that the seller be manufacturer, importer or an authorised dealer and have two regional servicing centres, Kaliňák said that the purchase is a highly serious matter. The devices purchased will serve as evidence before the courts when revoking a driving license, he explained, stating that the breathalysers are "not staplers".
