FORMER opposition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) party MP, Gabriel Karlin, who is being tried in a bribery case along with Banská Bystrica regional official Milan Mráz, has changed his version of events just days before the final verdict is expected, the Pravda daily reported.
Police apprehended Karlin with Sk500,000 (€12,800) in his briefcase after a meeting with Mráz and local businessman Juraj Hromada.
Karlin originally claimed that he put the case on a desk, left for the toilet and was not aware that there was any money in the case.
He now says he was trying to verify suspicions of corruption in Mráz's office.
The Banská Bystrica court will rule on the case next week.
