Former Defense Minister František Kašický joined the Foreign Ministry last week and is about to embark on a diplomatic career, Foreign Minister Ján Kubiš said after a Government session on February 6. According to unconfirmed information, he will be appointed Slovakia's Ambassador to NATO in Brussels.
Kubiš refused to comment on the dismissal of a number of ambassadors that the Government approved the same day, saying only that he would not express his stance on personnel matters until the completion of the whole process. According to him, all dismissed ambassadors were in their positions for longer than the standard term of three-four years.
He remarked that there were a few more of these ambassadors and the issue of their replacement would soon be dealt with. However, he added that "in some cases I have even decided on extending their missions beyond four years." This applies to Slovakia's Ambassador to the USA Rastislav Káčer, who has been posted there for four years and is due to remain there until this summer. The term of Permanent Representative of Slovakia to NATO Igor Slobodník has also exceeded four years. However, Kubiš declined to say if he was among the ambassadors dismissed. TASR
