Letter to the Editor: Regional restaurants deserve more exposure

Font size: A - | A +

Dear Sir,

I've been reading your paper more or less regularly for the past three years now, as I've spent a lot of time in Slovakia and Poland. After having completed my studies in Krakow, I am now back in Sweden, and I really appreciate your services on the Net, even if I prefer the paper version of the Spectator.

As I can't read Slovak very well, and as you can't trust Slovak media anyway (at least in some cases so far) I also very much appreciate your ambitions in trying to approach the truth of the strange politics of the lovely little country of Slovakia. Keep up the good work!

Let's now hope that Slovakia will recover concerning politics, and that the country will be put on the right track concerning its economy. What about something like the good part of the Polish example - a healthy kind of privatization, which can't collapse in the Czech way? Fortunately, Slovakia is rich enough to have a good chance, as opposed to Romania. Let's just hope that Slovakia will have mature politicians soon, and then things will be fine.

I also must say that I have appreciated your restaurant-articles, about where to eat and so on. But I think that you should try to cover more than Bratislava. I have personally spent a lot of time in Prešov, and there are some really good restaurants there (I know about every place to eat at in that lovely town). In particular, there is one place I think you should send some of your restaurant-journalists to: Restauracia Leonard, at the end of Hlavna ulica, close to Hotel Šariš. It's not hyper-exclusive, but it is very, very good, with friendly personnel and all that. Probably the best place in town.

I wish you all the best with your paper!

Sincerely yours,

Anders Hansson, Sweden
