According to Vokal, the experiment should prove the feasibility of utilising water with a temperature of about 80 degrees Celsius at a depth of some 2,700 metres.

If the results of the test are positive and confirm that the ground below the town is one of the best sources of geo-thermal water in Slovakia, Lipany is prepared to utilize the water for several purposes - such as for heating greenhouses and central-heating systems.

Most of all, however, the water is seen as having the potential to revive tourism in the whole upper Šariš region. The town is already preparing land covering some 15 hectares for a natural aqua-park that would cater for up to 2,000 visitors at a time year round.
