Lipšic to pitch criminal responsibility of companies

FORMER Justice Minister Daniel Lipšic, vice-chairman of the opposition Christian Democrats, intends to change Slovak law to make corporations criminally responsible for their actions.

"The aim of the Criminal Responsibility Act is to allow legal entities which commit serious crimes, including organised crime, to be punished," Lipšic said on February 17.

The proposed law concerns crimes involving terrorism, corruption, child pornography, the environment, and drug and human trafficking, the TASR newswire wrote.

Lipšic also wants to tighten disciplinary procedures against prosecutors. He proposes to install a zero tolerance system for prosecutors who break the law or neglect their duty, to require prosecutors to declare their personal assets, and eventually to place them under the authority of the Justice Ministry, as is the case in the Czech Republic.
