FORMER tycoon Jozef Majský, who is accused of fraud and organising a crime group in connection with the fall of the non-banking house Horizont Slovakia, was released from custody after 22 months.
The decision of the prosecutor’s office to free Majský shocked Justice Minister Daniel Lipšic and Interior Minister Vladimír Palko.
Majský and two other culprits, David Brtva and Partik Pachinger, who are still in custody, face five to 12 years in jail if convicted, the Pravda daily wrote.
According to Attorney General Dobroslav Trnka, however, there is no reason to keep Majský in custody any longer. The investigation of the case has been completed and it is expected that the prosecutor’s office will submit the indictment to the court in September this year.
Palko and Lipšic however, do not understand the reasoning behind Majský’s release, noting that Slovak authorities arrested the former businessman more than two years ago at the Slovak-Austrian border crossing as he was trying to leave the country.
