SEŇA mayor went on hunger strike to protest what he said was cabinet's negligence in resolving the alarming situation in his village, where inhabitants are forced to take their faeces and waste-water to their fields and gardens.
After 11 foodless days mayor Miroslav Bačenko ended his hunger strike, reaching partial victory when a wastewater processing plant in the nearby village of Milhosť agreed to re-start processing Seňa's wastewater.
Bačenko said that calls for help to Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda and various ministries had not helped.
The Milhosť plant stopped processing Saňa's wastewater four and half months ago because it had been connected to the newly opened Molex plant, which had effectively exhausted its capacity.
"Now that requests and calls for help haven't helped, I decided to protest their [cabinet's] negligence towards the needs of citizens in this way," Bačenko said. "The ball is now with the cabinet and Environment Ministry, who should provide funds to increase the [Milhosť] plant's capacity, and completing the construction of a sewage plant in our village."
