FORMER PM and boss of the opposition party Movement for a Democratic Slovakia Vladimír Mečiar has won a libel lawsuit against the publisher of the daily Pravda, Perex Bratislava, the news wire SITA reported.
A court ordered the publisher to pay Sk500,000 (€12,233) in damages to Mečiar for statements made in an article published in May 2000. The daily accused Mečiar of power abuse and said he had gained his wealth illegally while serving as the country's prime minister.
The publisher must also apologize to Mečiar and pay his court costs at Sk122,000 (€2,985).
The publishing house can still appeal the court decision.
