FORMER PM and boss of the opposition party Movement for a Democratic Slovakia Vladimír Mečiar has won a libel lawsuit against Perex Bratislava, the publisher of the daily Pravda, the SITA news wire reported.
A court ordered that the publisher pay Sk500,000 (€12,233) in damages to Mečiar for statements made in an article published in May 2000. The daily accused Mečiar of abusing power and said he had gained his wealth illegally while serving as the country's prime minister.
The publisher must also formally apologise to Mečiar and pay his court costs of Sk122,000 (€2,985).
The publishing house could still appeal the court decision.
