Shopkeepers can be blamed for expensive branded clothing in Slovakia, the Hospodárské Noviny daily wrote on August 2.
A representative from the Terno market research agency, Oľga Drahovská, said store owners jack up prices to earn as much as possible. They take advantage of the limited amount of competition on the market, and that is why their trade margins amount to as much as 200 percent.
Cheaper branded clothes can be found in Austria, Italy and Germany. Drahovská said overcharging for branded clothing will likely end when competition on the Slovak market is stronger.
