A commission is being created to protect consumers against unacceptable contracts, the Justice Ministry stated on its website, www.justice.sk, on October 6.
If the commission finds out that terms of a contract are unacceptable for consumers, the commission will report such cases to the associations for protection of consumers, which can file a lawsuit against the involved business entities.
Justice Minister Štefan Harabin points out that contracts are often drafted in a complicated way, which a citizen without legal background hardly understands.
"When the regulation comes into force, we will ask various companies to send us their general contractual terms, including leasing companies, non-banking financial companies, insurance companies, transport businesses, companies administering residential real estate, and so on," the minister stated.
