FOUR mobile operators – Orange Slovensko, Slovak Telekom, SWAN and Telefónica Slovakia – paid the second half of the one-off payment at €81.94 million for frequencies. They can now use the frequency in the bands 800 MHz and 1,800 MHz, which they received via an electronic auction, the SITA newswire reported on June 2.
The total sum for the frequencies was €163.9 million.
“The RÚ is helping decrease the state deficit with these unplanned incomes,” said Roman Vavro, spokesperson for the Regulatory Authority of Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RÚ), as quoted by SITA.
All four operators paid the first half of the sum, €81.94 million, at the beginning of the year. With the payment they were given the right to use frequency bands at 800 MHz, 1,800 MHz and 2,600 MHz, SITA wrote.
The competition over the frequencies started last August after it was launched by the predecessor of the RÚ, the Telecommunication Office (TÚ). The TÚ issued all permissions by December 30, 2013, SITA reported.
