MP Frantisek Šebej, a former member of the Civil Conservative Party (OKS) that was part of the Most-Híd slate in 2010, will be directly listed on the Most-Híd slate in the early election on March 10, Most-Hid chairman Béla Bugár and Šebej jointly announced at a press conference on November 3, the TASR newswire reported.
Though Šebej does not intend to join Most-Híd at this time he said he is not ruling it out in the future and Bugár said he would be happy if Šebej made that decision in the future.
"It's very good that Slovaks, Hungarians and other minorities are able to cooperate on a common issue on a single slate. Cooperation is important at a time when nationalism is on the rise in Europe. So, I accepted the offer to run on Most-Híd's slate again. We've never had any disputes over key issues, whether they involve minority rights, transparency, international relations or relations within the EU," said Šebej.
Šebej resigned from OKS in October after the fall of the Iveta Radičová government because his three fellow OKS MPs, Peter Zajac, Ondrej Dostál and Peter Osuský, played a part in the government’s collapse by rejecting the euro bailout fund. Šebej said that he had begun to diverge from the party line on several key issues, including the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) which he supported in parliament.
Also on November 3 the Ordinary People (OL) faction headed by Igor Matovič may have reached agreement with the Civic Conservative Party (OKS) and the Conservative Democrats of Slovakia (KDS) on slating their candidates in the early elections in March, with TASR writing that Matovič and his three party colleagues currently in parliament offered the two parties places on the bottom of their slate.
“We [Matovič, Jozef Viskupič, Erika Jurinová and Martin Fecko] will be the last four places; and we offered them the places above us,” Matovič stated. He added that OL will not determine who OKS and KDS should nominate on the slate. It appears that OKS will nominate Zajac and Dostál while their former colleague Osuský is no longer a member of OKS and will run on the slate of Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party headed by Richard Sulík.
