Fico as a candidate for the Constitutional Court judge at the public hearing (source: TASR)
Parliament has postponed the election of Constitutional Court candidates to February 7.
Speaker of Parliament Andrej Danko (SNS) is insisting that the constitutional and legal affairs committee must take a stance on Smer head Robert Fico first, the TASR newswire reported.
MP Irén Sárközy (Most-Híd), who has replaced Peter Kresák, also a candidate for the Constitutional Court judge post, said in the committee that she would not vote for Fico as one of 18 candidates. However, she is expected not to object to Fico being considered at least, as reported by the Sme daily.
The vote was originally scheduled for January 30 and then moved to February 6.
No agreement in coalition
The coalition has not agreed on its unified approach to the election. The coalition parties were said to agree on the 18 most acceptable candidates, Sme wrote.
It is not known whether they agreed on the candidates' names and on how many.
On the other hand, the opposition has agreed on nine candidates up to now, not revealing the names, said Róbert Buček, spokesperson for Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), as reported by Sme.
