New army development project introduced

SLOVAK Defence Minister Martin Fedor has introduced the Defence Ministry's long-term "Model 2015" development plan for the Slovak Army.

The minister said that priorities until 2015 will include more intense international cooperation, dedicated personnel, high-quality training for professional soldiers, and the modernization of technical equipment.

According to Fedor, the army should be more engaged in international military missions and should cooperate in fulfilling tasks pertaining to Slovakia's EU and NATO membership.

The project counts on a defence budget of 2.0 percent of the country's GDP, as opposed to the current 1.89 percent.
