Dobroslav Trnka has died
Former Prosecutor General Dobroslav Trnka has died at the age of 59, the tabloid daily Nový Čas reported. His passing was confirmed to the daily by his wife.
Trnka lost his battle with cancer on Wednesday, October 25.
In April, the National Crime Agency (NAKA) charged Trnka with abuse of authority over the release of notorious convicted fraudster Jozef Majský from custody in 2004. At the time, Trnka issued a written instruction to release Majský despite protests from two Košice prosecutors who oversaw Majský's prosecution.
He was also charged in the Glance House case. Trnka intervened in the case by allowing the transfer of the Glance House apartment building 11 years ago, despite the fact that the Special Prosecutor's Office had blocked the transfer.
And in July 2022, the then Bratislava I District Court stopped the criminal prosecution against the Trnka for concealing a recording known as 'Gorilla' revealing alleged extensive corruption in high politics. The court reclassified his actions from a crime to a misdemeanour. In that case, however, the matter was already past the statute of limitations. Trnka is believed to have had access to the recording between 2007 and 2014.
Trnka served as Prosecutor General from 2004 to 2011.
