More banks to offer instant payment
The European Parliament has approved regulation on instant payments, meaning money transfers will now occur in 10 seconds or less. The new rules will enter into force 20 days after they are published in the Official Journal of the EU.
Following this, all Eurozone banks will have 9 months to be ready to receive instant payments and 18 months to be ready to send them. Any fees for the service cannot be higher than fees applied to regular transactions, which are usually made by the following day.
In Slovakia, the banks already offering the service are: Slovenská Sporiteľňa, VÚB Banka, Tatra Banka, J&T Banka, Raiffeisen and Oberbank.
Other banks will have to introduce it within the time frame specified under the approved regulation.
According to public broadcaster RTVS and SITA newswire, they are already working on it. ČSOB has said it will roll out the service during this and next year, in compliance with deadlines and specifications. UniCredit Bank said it is working on the project, but gave no other details; Fio Banka will introduce the service during the year; 365.bank has also promised to comply with legislative requirements.
