Slovakia anticipates its initial winter snowstorm, with 7 to 20 centimetres expected in central and eastern areas, and up to 35 centimetres in isolated spots. The snowfall, influenced by two low-pressure systems, is likely to be predominantly snow despite some rain at lower altitudes. Eastern Slovakia, including the Zemplín, Abov, and Gemer regions, is forecasted to receive the most significant snowfall. Following the precipitation, a brief intrusion of cold Arctic air is expected, leading to windy conditions and potential snowdrifts.
In 2022, Slovaks generated 2.6 million tonnes of municipal waste, averaging 478 kilograms per person, an increase of nearly 50 percent over the past decade. About 39 percent of household waste ends up in landfills, while the recycling rate is approximately 50 percent. Around 9 percent of municipal waste is converted into energy or heat in waste-to-energy facilities. Slovakia is still considered a significant contributor to landfill waste.
WEATHER FOR TUESDAY
Cloudy to overcast skies are promised for Tuesday. As winter approaches snowfall is expected in many areas. In the southern half of western Slovakia and occasionally in the south-central and eastern parts of the country, precipitation like rain or rain with snow is to be expected. The highest daily temperature will be -2 to +3 °C. SHMÚ has issued level 1 warnings across Slovakia and level 2 warnings in the Košice and Prešov regions due to snowfall, drifting snow, freezing rain, and gusts in the mountains.
