The Association for Planned Parenthood has asked the head of the Slovak Bishops’ Conference, Roman Catholic Bishop František Tondra, to stop trying to meddle in the curriculum of any subject but religion in the country’s public schools.
The NGO was reacting to Bishop Tondra's open letter to Education Minister Ján Mikolaj. The bishop asked the minister, on behalf of all concerned parents, not to introduce a practical version of sexual education to schools.
He wrote that the church is not against sexual education, but that he is convinced that lessons focusing on information about contraceptives of any kind cannot be called education. That is just a doctrine, and not education, he said.
